A Labour in Vain

by Stuart Gillespie

"Unless the LORD builds the house, They labour in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain" - Psalm 127:1.

There is numerous DIY programs on TV these days, some creating a unique room for you full of vibrant colours, while another neutralised the colours ready to help you sell the house. Unfortunately often the results are not what is expected and the owner is not happy.

As we try to grow spiritually, we often do things on our own strength rather rely on the Lord, i.e. try to break a habit, volunteer at the church or even try to be a better person, but we fail and are not happy with the results.

Ephesians 2:10 tell us that "we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand."

We are the Lord's "project", he is trying to make us into something beautiful and useful to Him, but we often are reluctant and continue to do things in our own strength.

Let the Lord take control of your life this week and allow Him to work in you, it may be painful at times as He brings out the chisel to knock off your rough edges but it will be worth it in the end.

May God richly bless you this week

Stuart
