Which television?

As our TV now appears to have a "horizon" forming across the screen it looks like it is on the way out and will need to be replaced at some point in the near future.

I would really like to get an lcd TV at some point, but I'm not keen on paying ?800+ for one. There is also the matter of future compatability to think of (HDTV, digital, etc.).

With that in mind I thought I'd start a thread and see what recommendations I might get on the subject.

Currently leading is the (relatively) cheap 28" widescreen Durabrand TV Asda are selling for ?160ish. Haven't heard of Durabrand, it seems to be Asda's own make, but how wrong can you be at that price? However the current intention to hold on a while and see what happens in the market.

It sounds like you're in a bit of a tough spot with your TV! The "horizon" issue does sound concerning, but it’s great that you’re thinking ahead about your options. The Durabrand TV seems like a budget-friendly choice, especially if you're not ready to splurge on a high-end model yet. Asda’s own brands can sometimes surprise you with decent quality for the price, but make sure to check reviews and maybe even see if you can find it in-store to get a feel for it. It’s definitely worth waiting a bit to see if prices drop or new models come out, especially with all the advancements in technology.

Trying to think how many TVs we've been through since I posted this. :D

In the early days of the pandemic we upgraded to a smart TV. I had been sceptical, but it has been worth it. Being able to stream services from all over the world is something my wife particularly enjoys.
